Laurie C. Truskauskas Knott grew up in the town of Burlington, Connecticut, and began riding ponies at the age of three. As a young, single parent, she went to work for Joe Ferro, one of the men responsible for setting up the Quarter Horse Association and a highly respected trainer of both reiners and jumping horses. And so began a long friendship that started Laurie on the road to training and writing about horses.

From time to time, Ferro would mention that he wished he had written books so that all the knowledge he had gained was not lost. One day, Laurie wrote an article and sent it to a national horse magazine where it ran as a feature spread. She has continued to write for numerous publications since, and published her first book, Training the Two-Year-Old Colt, in 2000.

About that time, Laurie took a trip to Texas to visit an old friend. Her dream had always been to move to a warmer climate and train horses. On the trip she came across the farm of her dreams. Within a year she was resettled there, enjoying life, training horses professionally, giving lessons, writing books and articles, and basically leaving a dream.

Laurie is the author of over 8 books about horse care and horse training. Her books and articles are frequently praised for presenting usable, easily understood step-by-step training methods. Her greatest wish is that they help readers to learn to be better horse people who think about what they are telling the horse in the equal, thinking partnership of horse and human.
